How is auto insurance affected *when the damage is less than the deductible*?
I hit a tire that was in the road. When I got home I looked under the car and I was losing transmission fluid. After about 40 minutes, it stopped dripping completely. The next morning I called my insurance company and there wasn’t much of a conversation. They pretty much said I could take my car anywhere I wanted to get fixed and that I would be contacted by the "adjusters". So I was like oooooooooooook.
I had my car towed to a transmission shop. They said I needed a new oil pan(transmission fluid pan, not motor oil). I got my car back that same day. The amount was 7. My deductible is 0.
Here’s my question. Since the amount I paid was less than my deductible and I paid out of pocket, will my insurance be affected at all? I have State Farm. Does it affect your rates just for **the mere fact you made a claim**? What about discounts? For example, the Accident Free discount. Would that be lost? If so, how long before those discounts are reinstated?

It could affect your insurance..
You filed a claim, you will see an increase in your premiums and you lose your discount. Usually takes 3 years to get back to somewhat normal coverage.
Ask the agent. I know that with Nationwide if the claim is less than $1800 then there is no impact to insurance rates.
